Is it possible to visit the factory and view the vehicles as they are being constructed?

Yes, we encourage customers to come and visit the factory before buying and during the build process.  We are open Saturday mornings to make it easier for customers to come and visit us.

Is it possible to request changes to body & chassis?

Yes, we are quite happy to make alterations & additions so that the vehicle is more suited to your needs.

I am a large person, will I be able to fit into one of your Cobra’s?

Yes, we offer a number of options to fit larger framed people:
  • Up to 6’2” & 100kg’s can fit into our standard length Cobra.  We offer the option of a lowered (dropped) floor to help with both seating height and clearance of legs with steering wheel & dash.

  • Over 6’2” & 100kg’s we can supply a stretched body.  The body can be ordered with either a 50mm or 100mm stretch.  The stretching is performed in the mid section and doors are stretched the same length which makes a big difference to accessibility.  The stretching is not immediately noticeable and does not spoil the beautiful look of this Cobra.

You can also make an appointment at the factory for a test fitting if you are unsure which option would suit you best.

I am of a very large build/frame, will I be able to fit into one of your Daytona Coupe’s?

We fit a dropped floor as standard to our Daytona Coupes to assist with access & cockpit space.  As a general rule we can fit up to 6’2” & 100kg’s .  If you are unsure about fitment, please make an appointment at the factory for a test fitting.

Why are your bodies bonded to the chassis in the factory?

The advantages we have seen with monocoque construction are:

  • You end up with a stronger and lighter body & chassis unit.

  • Handling and performance is superior.

  • Bonding the body to the chassis at the factory ensures correct alignment of body to chassis and also alleviates any chance of the body moving on the chassis.  Also saves the owner the time required to perform this work afterwards.
  • Doors, Bonnet & Boot can be mounted and aligned from the factory.

Isn’t it more difficult to build and work on a vehicle where the body cannot be removed?

There are certainly advantages to be able to remove the body from the chassis during the build process, but it also has disadvantages:

  • Due to incorrect placement it is easy to have installed parts on the chassis foul with the body when it is eventually put back on.

  • Can require twice the space as the body needs to be stored somewhere.

  • You need to be careful how you store the body as it can easily lose it’s shape, that’s the nature of unsupported fibreglass.

  • It’s also much easier to damage the body while it is being removed, replaced or stored separately.  Quite often the body needs a number of test fittings.

  • You will also need to re-mount and align doors, bonnet & boot.  A Harrison has this done from the factory.

We also leave the drivers floor out of the vehicle to assist in accessing the footwell & under dash area.
Once the vehicle is completed it is extremely rare to ever remove the body from the chassis.

If you have special requirements that require a chassis without body bonded to it, please contact us and we might be able to work out an alternative for you.

My mechanical skills are very basic, will I be able to complete the build?

Yes, we have many builders that have little or no mechanical expertise.  You can decide how much work you perform yourself.  With the resources available through clubs, assistance from our factory, library materials, TAFE & college courses; you will have the opportunity to learn the skills to get the results that you are after.  There is more than just mechanical work that you can do yourself, many first time builders also tackle some body work, trimming etc, if they have the time to practice and refine the skills required.

My time available for building the cobra is limited, can I get some extra work done at the factory?

Yes, we are more than happy to assist by performing work on your vehicle at any time during the build process.

What can I do with the vehicle once it has been completed & registered?

With vehicles like this, your opportunities are endless.  The best place to start is to join the Cobra Car Club in your state.  Many owners find that the activities, friendship & events are just as enjoyable as the vehicle itself.  Club membership also provides an opportunity for your family & friends to get involved as well.  A wide variety of activities are organised to cater for everyone’s tastes: motorsport, cruises, car shows, meetings, social events etc.

I’ve heard that it’s virtually impossible to get new vehicles approved and registered now?

This is not true.  There are certainly requirements that must be met, but if you meet these requirements then it’s a straight forward process to get your vehicle approved in any state or territory in Australia.  We recommend employing the services  of an automotive engineer before you start your build.  The engineer will guide you on what is required in your locality, submit all paperwork to your local transport authority and guide you through the whole process.  We can certainly give you an overview of what is required in each locality and can recommend engineers that are familiar with the process.

Will I be able to use this vehicle as a daily driver?

Yes, many owners drive their vehicles on a daily basis.  If you have this goal in mind, plan your build this way, keeping in mind running costs, driveability, waterproofing, softtop/hardtop etc.

I don’t live locally, where can I view one of your vehicles in my state?

Please visit our About Us - Contact page for your local dealer.  You can also view our vehicles and talk to owners at Cobra Car Club meetings in most states.  Considering the cost of the build, time & materials involved we encourage our customers to be fully informed on their kit purchase.  It can certainly be worth the drive/flight costs & time to come and visit the factory in person.  You could organise the trip to coincide with Cobra Car Club of QLD breakfast meeting held on 1st Sunday of the Month, so you can see finished vehicles and talk to their owners.  Please contact us in advance if you are going to make a special trip to visit our factory.  Or alternatively you can catch up with us at one of the National Cobra Club events.

Is it possible to speak to other customers about their purchase & build?

Yes, we encourage membership to Cobra Car Club in your state.  There you will find owners/builders of our vehicles and many others.  We are actively involved in the Cobra Car Club both locally in QLD and nationally.  See About Us – Contact page for more info.

I’m interested in building a vehicle to race?

Many Harrison owners have done this.  Considering our involvement in racing both locally & nationally, we are in the perfect position to assist with this.  We have also produced numerous light weight track only cars, including our factory race car.  Please contact us with your requirements and we will assist you wherever possible.

I’ve seen an old Harrison Cobra, are your vehicles still the same today?

No, we are continually improving our processes, construction techniques and materials.  By listening to our customers, participating in motorsport, attending club events, we are continually researching and finding ways to improve the performance, looks and ease of build of our vehicles.

Why does the Daytona only accept LS1/LS2 (or equivalent) & 302/351 engine choices?

Due to the body shape of the Daytona Coupe, it has less height available for engine clearance than our Cobra replicas.  Modern overhead cam engines are generally higher in physical size and can cause clearance problems.  Some engines that do cause clearance problems are Ford 4.6 modular, Ford Boss 260, Toyota Lexus (or equivalent).

What engines can I fit to your Cobra replicas?

Our standard fitments are: Ford 4.6 modular, Ford Boss 260, Toyota Lexus (or equivalent), Holden/Chev LS1 & LS2, Ford 302/351.  Most popular fitment is the Holden/Chev LS1 & LS2.  If you would like to fit an engine that is not listed above, please contact us and we will try to accommodate you.

What wheel sizes can I fit?

Most popular wheel sizes these days are 17/18” x 8” and 17/18” x 10”.  We also have many owners that have fitted 15” & 16” wheels and also wheels wider than 10”.  We can supply information on offsets and advice on wheel selection for brake clearance etc.

How well will my Cobra drive on the road?  Will it be like a new vehicle or an old 60’s sports car?

Our Cobra replica’s drive like new vehicles, the modern mechanicals, fuel injected engines and superior chassis dynamics guarantee that you vehicle will be a pleasure to drive.  Most owner builders are amazed at how well the vehicles perform for road use.

What sort of motorsport performance can I expect out of my Cobra/Daytona?

Drags
With modern engine performance, owners can expect their vehicle to do a 12 sec 1/4 mile, with many managing the low 12 sec ¼ mile times on standard street rubber.  We have Harrison Cobra’s that manage 11 sec ¼ mile times on street rubber.  The main limiting factor is traction.  Most standard production vehicles regardless of price, cannot even come close to this sort of performance.

Track
The Cobra/Daytona will outperform most standard production vehicles for motorsport events.  Our vehicles have the added advantage of:

  • Adjustable suspension - so that you can tailor the handling to your preferences or situation.

  • Motorsport Experience - due to our extensive personal involvement in motorsport with our vehicles we are able to give you expert advice on how to get the most out of your vehicle.

Can I fit deep offset or deep offset pin drive wheels to your replica’s without body modification?

Yes.  There are a few options:

  • We have specially developed a fabricated independent rear-end for our vehicles with this in mind.  With this rear-end you are able to fit deep offset & deep offset pin drive wheels.

  • The Daytona body is actually wider in the rear compared to the Cobra, so your deep offset wheel choices are better.

  • Our Live Axle rear-ends can all be supplied in shortened form for deep offset & deep offset pin drive wheels.
The Skyline R32 rear-end was specifically selected for its width, it was the narrowest rear-end available with the performance & availability that we required.  Fitting this rear-end results in what we describe as a medium dish and certainly still retains an attractive rear wheel offset.  This is our most popular rear-end choice.

Can I easy fit a soft top or hard top?

Yes. We can supply all the required parts and expertise to custom fit a top to your requirements.

For an idea of what other customers have chosen to do, see our Soft Top photos in the Cobra Gallery.
